Olivier Adoue will be launching a music video for the song “Tides” on Saturday, December 19th, 2009 at L ‘Escalier, 552, Sainte-Catherine EST, Montréal, Que. Metro Berri. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a performance from Olivier with special guest Jon Davis. The first screening will take place in between music sets. There will be a second screening at the end of the show around 8 p.m.
“Tides” is a track found on Adoue’s November 2008 release “La grâce matinée”. The video was filmed on a warm august evening earlier this year in the west-island. Other set locations include the plateau area of Montreal. The video stars Adrian Burhop, Sebastien Gauthier, and Olivier Adoue with his band and features members of the Pointe-Claire lawn bowling club.
Montreal cameraman and filmmaker Dan Rona captured images of pristine quality during the shoot, which made editing a breeze. His camera angles and focusing techniques highlight the song’s smooth and jazzy sound.
Olivier established this video’s scenario in collaboration with Adrian Burhop. Both being west-islanders, they scouted locations in their native area for the clip and decided on the Pointe-Claire lawn bowling club for one of their main locations. Their experience at the lawn bowling club produced amazing results for the music video, shedding a new light on the little known sport.
The video aims to outline the contrast between community activities and social alienation. It also touches on the subject of the generation gap that is prominent in many areas of western society.

In the chic ambiance of the Parc des Princes in Montreal’s Mile-End,
Olivier will be releasing his new album entitled “La grâce matinée”.
He will be accompanied by Anit Ghosh on vocals, violin and mandolin, Éric
Thibodeau on drums and Philippe Leduc on double bass. Several guests that
took part in the recording of the album will also be adding their unique sound
to the music.
On this recording, Olivier used acoustic instrumentation, french and english
lyrics and a healthy amount of improvisation to put forth a relaxing and endearing
sound. While providing a soothing mood, the compositions are rhythmically
envigorating and reel the listener in to the composer’s world of jazz
influenced folk music.
The album’s overall sound is akin to a morning light enveloped by vocal
harmonies, fairy-like mandolin, exotic middle-eastern percussion and a mellow
brass section. At times, the lyrics lead one to reflection, as in the Bob
Dylan inspired « It’s Okay To Feel Lonely ». Other tunes
such as « La Grâce Matinée » and « Rhymes And
Time » describe an adventurer’s trials and tribulations in story
form. In another light, the tale of an extra-terrestrial being vacationing
on earth in « Alien Blues » and a mile-end hipster that rarely
leaves his neighborhood in « La Moitié Du Monde » bring
about a comedic air to the collection of songs.
The cd release will take place Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 at Parc des Princes,
5293 Parc. The format for the event will be a “5 à 7”,
complete with appéritif, live music from the album and snacks. Admission
to the event is 5$ or 15$ with a cd. Admission and drink passes are available
for any media persons who would like to attend the event, providing they confirm
